In Internet environment every computer use a protocol called TCP/IP.
The Internet, sometimes called simply "the Net," is a worldwide system of computer networks a network of networks in which users at any one computer can, if they have permission, get information from any other computer and sometimes talk directly to users at other computers. Whenever you will a message through internet, TCP divides the data into units called packets and attaches to each packet. Internet protocol then labels all the packets with a header containing the address of the destination and sends them on their way.
When the packets reach their destination, the computer on the receiving end removes the IP header and uses the data that TCP attached to each packet to make use none of the packets have been lost or damaged. The packets are then reassembled into the original message.To use TCP/IP protocol computer need the specific software.Different type of hardware used to connect computer with the internet like modem is used to access the internet from home.You are connected through a computer with an Internet Gateway, if you access the Internet from a computer .In the LAN, Gateway is a special computer that communicates with the internet.To send or recive information speed depends on the modem or its bandwidth. Bandwidth is the capacity of data lines to carry Internet traffic.
Physically, the Internet uses a portion of the total resources of the currently existing public telecommunication networks. Technically, what distinguishes the Internet is its use of a set of protocols called Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). Two recent adaptations of Internet technology, the Intranet and the extranet, also make use of the TCP/IP protocol.The Internet can be seen as having two major components: network protocols and hardware. The protocols, such as the TCP/IP suite, present sets of rules that devices must follow in order to complete tasks. Without this common collection of rules, machines would not be able to communicate.

displaying on web through hyperlinks supported by HTTP protocol.Web resources may be any type of downloadable media. Web pages are documents interconnected by hypertext links formatted in Hypertext Markup Language (HTML). The HTML syntax displays embedded hyperlinks with URLs, which permits users to navigate to other web resources. In addition to text, web pages may contain references to images, video, audio, and software components, which are either displayed or internally executed in the user's web browser to render pages or streams of multimedia content. Web applications are web pages that function as application software.
